Casual Silk

Retro Sunnies // Forever 21 Denim Vest (no longer available, but loving this one) // Urban Outfitters Embroidered Tank (similar) // Silky Olive Shorts // Francesca's Collection Bag (loving this one) // Nude Forever 21 Sandals (similar) // Lia Sophia Earrings gifted // Gold "R" Necklace // Arm Candy: Charming Charlie, Butter & Scotch, c/o Purple Paparazzi // Kate Spade Bow Ring

I had my very first blog photoshoot last week, and it was an absolute blast! I had the honor of working with the talented Mr. and Mrs. couple from Anchor and Veil Photography. Other than a senior picture session several years ago and a dozen selfies here and there, this was my first "real" experience being in front of the lens. They both did a fabulous job putting me at ease and coming up with fun locations and poses.

I was able to shoot five outfits with them (thanks to the Finnegan's Wake restroom), and I am just beyond giddy to share them with you. With the outfit above I was able to incorporate some new pieces I recently purchased along with some older closet classics. I love how the coral bag pops against my neutral outfit to add a little fun!

R

Wednesday Pick-Me-Up

Treat Yo Self on Darling Cashmere

Happiest of Wednesdays to you!
How about taking the advice above--treat yo self!
Maybe that looks like a new pair of shoes, a filled-to-the-brim cup full of froyo, or some qt with yourself [with that celly off!] and a glass [or two] of wine..whatever it may be, DO IT!

Southern Belle

Hey y'all! Just kidding--although it is quite fitting for today's post.
I came across the image on Pinterest and I could not agree more!

The diagram says it all right down to the sandals.
Sorry if you aren't Southern and just don't understand--this is who we are.
It's more than a gameday attire checklist, it's a way of life.

Wednesday Pick-Me-Up

Have you discovered Sugar Paper yet? If not, you certainly should. I am personally recommending it. Although located in LA, their online shop is adorable!

For your Wednesday Pick-Me-Up, I am sharing one of my favorite art prints from their collection. Bonus: it's gold foil! I die.

Be happy. Be bright. Be you.
It's simple advice really.

DIY: Chalkboard Pantry Doors

So this project has probably been on my mind and to do list for months. I have even had the Martha Stewart Chalkboard Paint patiently sitting on a side table waiting for me to get started. I can happily say that I finally started and completed the project--and I absolutely LOVE the final result!

The tools I used:
  • Chalkboard paint (one bottle was plenty)
  • Paint brush (literally just found an old one I had stashed in a craft box)
  • Painters tape (I used Frogtape brand leftover from a couple years ago)
  • Newspaper or dropcloth for the floor
  • I used a paper plate for the paint, but you are more than welcome to use something much more fancy!
  • Chalk! (When I first went to purchase supplies, it must have been beginning of camp season because the chalk at Michaels was completely out of stock. Staples carries the Martha Stewart brand at a much higher price, but the Crayola box I found works just fine!)

Here are my start-to-finish pictures:

I actually decided not to paint the top pantry cabinet doors, but snapped a picture just to show the total "before" look (Clearly, I can't wait to paint the rest of the cabinet. Any color suggestions?)

Darling Cashmere
The directions on the paint bottle said I'd need to paint at least 3 coats, but I probably did 4. I felt a little discouraged on the first couple coats because of all the streakiness (my fault--I decided against prepping the surface with sandpaper, etc.), but after a few more coats it was as smooth as it could be!

Because of the detail on the cabinets, it really only made sense to paint the inside portion of the doors.
Please don't judge me for the junk food you may be able to see hiding in the pantry haha. We do eat healthy every now and then, but I just have a major sweet tooth!

I did this quick menu on the fly before heading to the mountains this past weekend. And we really did have chicken stir fry last night (best recipe ever courtesy of my dear friend, Stevie!)

I am beyond excited to have this little hidden menu in there. I frequently head to the store with a weekly menu in mind, but by the time I get back home and have put away all the ingredients I can hardly remember what I had planned. This will save on those last-minute decisions to have Chinese take-out (at least I am hoping so!)

Are you working on any small home improvement projects yourself?

Style Crush: Striped Pants

Being able to master a transitional wardrobe with key pieces that can mix for work and play is a must-have skill for the modern woman. I am loving the versatility of these elements!

There are so many aspects of this look that I am drawn to. For starters, the striped pants are just killer. How slimming would your gorgeous legs be in these babies? I also have this thing for blazers--I have found the best place to find cool colors and menswear-inspired boxy shapes are from your favorite vintage dives. The opportunities for that blazer to pop are endless!

Oh hey..and did you notice that white Zara top is a bit of a midriff-bearer? Check out another favorite crop top on Weekend Style.

Wednesday Pick-Me-Up

Happy Wednesday, lovelies! This past weekend the Mr. and I headed on a little getaway to Bald Head Island for a gorgeous beach wedding. It's the middle of the week and I am just now unpacking our bags and getting the house back together. While I get reorganized over here, enjoy this gorgeous little pick-me-up..

Wednesday Pick-Me-Up

Happy Wednesday! I normally try [I say try because last week I failed..and I am sure I will again. Forgive me?] to do an art print or quote on Wednesdays as a little mid-week pick-me-up, and this one could not be more appropriate in anticipation of such a special day this Sunday, Mother's Day:

Is this saying not true or what? If you can't find yourself relating, just wait. I am only in my twenties and already experiencing this--in the best way possible, of course!

Love you, Mom!

Gift Guide: Mother's Day

Eek I think I am running a little behind on this one. I promise it is with complete good intentions, though. I really want to find something my mother will truly enjoy--especially since the Mr. and I will be out of town for the whole weekend at a wedding on Bald Head Island.

Here are a few great gift ideas for those of you who haven't purchased yet and are still looking for some last-minute buys!

Starting with a gorgeous card is always a good thing.
I guarantee moms want words of love and affirmation [plus time together] above anything else.

Growing up, my family did practically everything together. Car rides to the drugstore around the corner and grocery shopping trips were all family affairs. I love this adorable grocery list pad!

I am kind of loving the idea of an art print as a gift. This one pictured above is FREE via French Press Mornings. Just print on nice paper and frame!
My mother and I both share the love of Christ, and I know she would enjoy seeing that print daily either in the house or at her desk in the office.

What are your go-to stores and shops for Mother's Day?

Mint & Coral Colorstory

I am color crushing on mint and coral lately. I finally brought out my mint skinnies the other week when the weather got warm enough. I can't wait to start pairing them with coral for a fabulous colorblock ensemble!
